Vote for Louisville’s Top Drop

August 10th, 2010 by admin | See what 52 other Friends of Lou had to say about this.

Here in the gateway to Bourbon Country, it’s possible to have more than one favorite bourbon of course. But just for fun, we want to know what your “go-to” bourbon is. We’ve tried to pick a brand from every Kentucky distiller, but you can also write in your choice if you don’t see yours listed.

Think long. Think hard. If you must, stop by any of the nine local bars/restaurants on the Urban Bourbon Trail to remind your tastes buds. And to make getting there even easier, download the iPhone application by clicking here. Once you’re ready, click below to vote. (Since all of these are our favorite, we decided to list the bourbons in a random order.)

  1. Pullen says:

    Gotta be Bulleit y’all.

  2. Mark says:

Old Rip Van Winkle, by far the best!

  3. pat says:

Four Roses – single barrel. sorry Maker’s!

  4. Mark says:

Also, where’s Weller, Forester, Fitzgerald and Granddad? I personally prefer these to any of the above. If you’re really a bourbon fan, look to “Pappy” and “Lot B”!

  5. Jeffreys says:

    Canadian Mist.

  6. Michael Maier says:

    Bookers kills them all.

  7. abbie says:

Four Roses gets my vote every time. Best Ky. has to offer!!!

  8. ChuckMick says:

The Rose Rocks! More mellow moments more flavor(s)

  9. Cocoa says:

Four Roses is the “Best of the Best”

  10. Gayle says:

Any Four Roses product, especially single barrel.

  11. Joe says:

Really? No Basil Hayden? baker’s? Booker’s? Black Maple Hill?

  12. Gene says:

Hey Jefferys, Canadian Mist is not a bourbon

  13. Will says:

Blanton’s needs to be added. Smoothest bourbon out there!

  14. Jennie says:

    What about Rock Hill Farms?

  15. Lauren says:

I agree with Mark, Abbie, et al – Four Roses is divine!

  16. Theresa says:

Woodford Reserve has stolen my heart and my taste buds! Sooooo smooooth………….

  17. NJC says:

I’m with Theresa–Woodford Reserve is hands down the smoothest, best tasting burbon!!! I usually drink wine or “sissy” drinks, but Woodford Reserve has made a believer out of me!

  18. M. Watson says:

You never listed all the tasty Bourbon candies AND the brands as
    sponsored same.

  19. Basil fan says:

Try Basil Hayden’s, it’s my fave!

  20. Joe Williams says:

    Elijah Craig 18. None better.

  21. Lynn McCrary says:

FOUR ROSES is the smoothes and the best. I liked burbon, but I love FOUR ROSES. My brother hipped me to FOUR ROSES, THANKS MICHAEL.

  22. Simian Prime says:

    Beam & Coke!!!

  23. Michael "JUICE" McCrary says:

Tried 4 Roses Single Barrel over 2 years ago, been drinking it ever since. Finally came to San Antonio about 6months ago so now I don’t need it shipped! Can’t wait 4 my next ‘Ville visit!!!!!

  24. Sharon says:

Just finished the Bourbon Trail, tasted great bourbons and a great time was had by all. Love my old Kentucky home bourbons but have to say my favorite one of all is Jameson Irish Whiskey. We love our Irish coffee. Nothing like hot whiskey in the morning!

  25. Jessica says:

I’m shocked that Four Roses has the most votes… it might be the LAST bourbon I’d pick here in Kentucky. However, it was the ONLY bourbon I could always find internationally! I suppose there’s something to be said for that.
And although Pappy is a damn fine drink, my favorites are still Bulleit and Old Fo’.

Quiz: does anyone know how Old Forester got it’s name?
    It’s a good one!

  26. Gene says:

Hey Jessica, why are you surprised? Four Roses is a damn fine product! If you only knew about Bulleit!

  27. Dick Gloverr says:

You don’t know what you have missed until you try 1792

  28. Ron says:

I believe the best is Woodford Reserve. Tops all of the others in taste and smoothness!

  29. Mary Ann says:

    Woodford Reserve. Love it. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

  30. jayne says:

10yr WL Weller 107,#1 for me, even at the high proof is the smoothest by far. oh &, neither canadian mist nor jamisons are bourbons

  31. Dee says:

Woodford is the best Bourbon and should be voted Louisville Top Drop because it is fact!

  32. Dee says:

Woodford is the best and deserves to win the Louisville Top Drop because it is true – smooth and rich tasting. It is drop to the last drop.

  33. Roy says:

Agree with Jayne- Weller 107 10 year is superb- but my “go-to” is W. L. Weller 7 year 90. A wheated bourbon, so similar in style to Maker’s, but more complex… and half the price! Worth seeking out.

  34. Laura says:

One trip to the Woodford Distillery will make you a WR loyalist forever. And the Woodford Gold Rush at Proof is worth every drop – WR, Honey Simple Syrup and Lemon!

  35. Mary Ann says:

Woodford the very best of the best! Soooo smooth………..

  36. Der Senator says:

Looks like Brown-Forman has mobilized its entire marketing department to post on this thread. “Loyalist?” You’re letting your MBA show, dear.

  37. Denise says:

Love Eagle Rare, Maker’s Mark 46, 4 Roses Single Barrel, Four rOses Small Batch, Buffalo Trace, Red Stag, Just to name a few! :-)

  38. Karen Clark says:

I’m a big Maker’s Mark fan. I’m not too impressed with your survey since you can vote multiple times.

  39. Dan says:

Blanton’s is hands down the best bourbon ever and the fact that it isn’t on this list just proves that you all are ignorant retards.

  40. Charles Seil says:

    Makers is the King

  41. Luisa says:

I just returned from Kentucky and some major Bourbon tastings. I went to the Woodford distillery and it is quite good, but I found my tastes leaning towards Maker’s. Baker’s and Knob Creek were also excellent. I know this isn’t the place to say this, but am a decades long Jack Daniels drinker, and I admit am now cheating on dear Jack with Maker’s. Hoping someone will give me a bottle of Baker’s for a birthday treat! What’s wrong with a house full of various bourbons?

  42. Wade Arrington says:

Valentines Reserve 51 y/o Best I have ever tasted! Period!

  43. Mary Dean says:

Makers Mark, nothing else will do.

  44. andrew says:

    markers mark is the BEST!!!!!!!!

  45. Art says:

I toured Markers Mark on 9/24 and had a great time, waxed my own
bottle and brought of 64 home for the sons in law. the proof is in the way they do things. Thanks

  46. Don says:

Maker’s for everyday; Pappy for special occasions.

  47. Keith says:

Pappy’s 23-15-20, was a Woodford fan for yrs, tour and all… until Pappy and Old Rip van Winkle filled my glass.

  48. Gregg Newsom says:

    I am a Woodford man………Period.

  49. Jim Pinti says:

Woodford is my go to bourbon. Makers Mark and Knob Creek run a close #2 and #2A.

  50. Jeff says:

Pappy 12 year is my special occasion bourbon, but for my standard “go to” drink it’s all Woodford.
