A City of Art

April 9th, 2009 by admin | Click here and tell us how you really feel.

I don’t have many chances to visit City Hall and truthfully, I like it that way. That being said though I think it’s pretty cool that Louisville is building a new community art gallery in our City Hall. It speaks to this city’s commitment to the arts and that’s awesome.

I know there are some people who think art is superfluous in current economic times but I couldn’t disagree more. Art is essential for both the souls of people and cities. I’m so glad I live in a city that values art.

Metro Council President David Tandy, D-4, visited the Louisville Visual Art Association
today to announce the creation of the new Community Art Gallery at City
Hall. The gallery will display up to 100 different pieces of visual art
by local artists in the 134-year-old government building.

“In City Hall, the structure itself is a piece of art,” Tandy says.
“You’ll see that visual arts gives us an opportunity to tell a story of
a community that will last for generations.
