Environmental Reporters, er, Reporting for Duty

Congratulations go to Louisville Public Media for receiving a $40,000 grant from the Energy Foundation to “build a consortium of public radio stations throughout the region
interested in producing environmental news and features and sharing
them with others stations.” The money is to support The Ohio River Radio Project.

We have embarked on The Ohio River Radio Project, which will
produce environmental news and information for WFPL. We will also share
this material with public radio stations and listeners throughout the
Ohio River watershed.

The geographic focus of the project is the Ohio River, which flows 981
miles from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Cairo, Illinois, slicing
through the heartland of the Eastern United States. With its
far-reaching tributaries, it drains the cities, farms and forests of 14
states, including Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, New York, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee. Its watersheds are
home to about 10 percent of the US population.

I’m happy to see Louisville Public Media being at the forefront of environmental reporting in the region.
