Louisville: A city that will leave your senses shattered — but totally satisfied
Louisville’s Waterfront: Feast Your Senses, Morning, Noon, and Night
If you’re in the market for world-famous bands, international cuisine, or one of the Earth’s largest fireworks displays, then you, my friend, are not only on the right planet but in the right city on the right waterfront.
Morning (Jacket)
Desperately seeking that perfect head-banging / toe-tapping / just-trying-to-look-sort-of-nonchalantly-cool experience? My Morning Jacket recently played a sold-out concert at Waterfront Park. Recordings from that concert can be found on the appropriately titled EP Celebración De La Ciudad Natal (Celebration of Your City). Get your hands on this album one of two ways: Cruise down to a local independent record store this weekend, like ear x-tacy, and shell out about ten bucks. Or you can CLICK HERE and tell us why Louisville’s Waterfront rocks. The best five answers get a free CD.
Noon
Pretend you just saved, oh, I dunno, ten bucks: what would you do with the money? Here’s an idea. Get down to the Chow Wagon on the Waterfront and sample all manner of ethnic fare, from fajitas to kebobs to gyros to hamburgers to daiquiris and margaritas and corn dogs. Open from April 23 to May 01, and bragging “the best in carnival-style cuisine,” it’s hard to imagine what could possibly go wrong. CLICK HERE if you decide to go. CLICK HERE if you make it back.
Night
If the thought of seeing and smelling 60 tons of fireworks lay waste to a tranquil evening sky fills you with nervous anticipation. Or if the sight of 400 barges packed with enough percussive power to deafen a half-million people for 28 minutes has you all atwitter with expectation, Thunder Over Louisville is for you. This Mother of All Fireworks Displays takes place on April 18, and the Waterfront has the best seats in town. CLICK HERE if you don’t believe us.
