People, Chuck is right.

Sorry to tell you, but he is spot-on.

The economic base here (especially for those with college degrees)is virtually non-existant.

I like the fact that Louisville is at least trying to market itself though these activites exist on a greater level and with much greater diversity in other cities.

Louisville has setup itself up as a great weekend, regional destination but not a great place to live; unfortunate, since I lived in Louisville for 20 years and would still live in Louisville if there were 'possibilities'.

Unfortunately, the brain drain is alive and well in Louisville as witnessed by the average wage and the number of white collar professional jobs that exist.

Anyone interested in seeing where the city and state rank in indices that people read should look to the 'Best Places to Live' by Money, 'Wellness Index' by Gallup, 'Best Busines Climate', and others will give you the areas Louisville and KY need to work on in order to not be so laughable.

Until then, keep living in ingorant bliss.

If there are those of you who feel Louisville has nothing to offer try changing it from within.

A bitter and unhappy countenance only makes you bitter and unhappy. It doesn't solve anything.

Add your input to what you feel is missing. There are other places which have far less but the issue is happiness comes from within not from geography.

The grass always seems to look greener on the other side of the fence but then sometimes you find no grass at all.

Never go so far away from home that your heart can never back.

I'm sorry to say, that's the case with me: I moved away 15 years ago to find any semblance of a career opportunity. I returned last year to take care of family only to find the local job market even less friendly to white-collar workers than when I left.

I wish I had a reason to disagree with Chuck, but at the moment I don't. I wish that would change, but as it stands, when my family obligations end, so too will my residence here...

Hey Chuckie --- Who cares, really, about the growth that you bemoan? Louisville was smaller when I got here & may be smaller when I leave. There is a lot to value in a city of any size. I hope you have learned by now, Size Doesn't Matter.
Have you ever heard of a fellow named Thomas Paine? Probably not, but he once said "Lead, follow or get out of the way." You complain about leadership but are obviously not a leader. You have stressed that you do not want to follow --- so, go ahead Chuck, get out of the way. Go. Get. Go way.

Every place has it's ups and downs, not just Louisville. Each has it's problems and good points. Large cities, small towns, rural areas. Nothing can be accomplished without at least trying to put a positive foot forward. Jobs are being lost everywhere. Sometimes you just have to accept that nothing can be changed but yourself.
Never go so far away from home that your heart can never get back.

call me crazy but something tells me chuck wasn't the class clown... well, ain't no use debatin' with gratuitous hatin'. we take the bad with the good, in louisville, in any city, in life itself. i think the campaign is just trying to focus on what we do have going for us, which is a lot, and energize people around that. what's to criticize? what should we do, launch a campaign to point out all the things that suck? so chuck, get on board or get the f*** outta here ;-)
