A Vote for Lou Is a Vote for Lou

You’ve shown out-of-town friends the Keep Louisville Weird and Buy Local First stickers all over town, and you’ve probably bought more than your fair share of locally created stuff, but now’s your chance to do something even more altruistic.

Tell us who you think is Louisville’s finest local business or service.

It could be a one-person enterprise, a music group or artist, a small family-run firm, or even a local company that’s hit the big time. Just write your recommendation in the Comments section below, and we’ll do the rest.

The Rest (And How We’ll Make It Cool)
We’re going to tally up all your recommendations in two weeks, then we’re going to make a special homegrown video for whoever wins. We’ll share it here with everyone — with luck, it’ll promote their business in the process.

Who Loves You? Lou Loves You.
Here’s Why.

You’ll get goodies in the mail and weekly emails pumped full of nifty info and giveaways. Plus the skinny on what’s going on around Possibility City. For The Love of . . .

March 2nd, 2010 by admin | See what 1 other Friend of Lou had to say about this.

. . . Louisville.

Louisville has started an online contest with Trazzler — a Web site that helps people answer the question “Where should I take a trip?” Unlike other trip advisor sites, Trazzler looks to promote the real and cool things that make a city unique. And who better to share the cool things about Louisville than people like you. (Insert gentle stroke of your ego.) Since it is a contest, there are prizes. Two nights at 21c Museum Hotel. $200 gift card for Louisville Originals, Actors Tickets and more…

This will take five minutes and you will feel like a better person when you are done.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. SIGN UP for Trazzler and provide a valid email address.
  2. Click on WRITE A TRIP and fill out the required fields.
  3. Select the Louisville Contest in the dropdown at the bottom of the final trip submission page.
  4. On Facebook, become a fan of Louisville for news and chances to promote your trip.
  5. Send this email to FIVE PEOPLE that you know love Louisville. Post it on your blog, twitter, facebook status, etc.
  6. Get back in there and write another trip about Louisville, you know you want to!

Top Ten Reasons to Love on Louisville

October 22nd, 2009 by admin | See what 6 other Friends of Lou had to say about this.

toptenIt’s no secret we’re all about the Quality of Life in Possibility City, but there are enough Left-Brainers among us who demand to know about the Quantity of Life. “Prove we are a one-of-a-kind-don’t-take-no-for-an-answer-sort-of city that gets things done with a smile,” they cry. “And then turn it into a list so we can share it with anyone who doubts how cool we are.”

So we did. And here it is:

The Top Ten Reasons Louisville’s a Top-Tier Town
1 — 21c Museum Hotel has been selected as the Number One Hotel in the United States, and Number Six hotel in the world, in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards for 2009.

2 — Louisville has been voted all the way to Number Two as a “Top-25 City” according to a Kiplinger.com poll. (There’s still time to fix that, though: vote now to get us back to Number One.)

3 — One of the top-three winners for “Most Improved Cities for Cycling” by Bicycling Magazine. These things go in cycles, so who knows where we’ll end up a year from now?

4 — Fourth-most “Photo-Friendly City” in the country. Got a photo of Possibility City of your own? Add it by clicking here.

5 — One of the five finalists for “America’s Foodiest” by Bon Appetit magazine. Yes, we know it’s not a real word, but we wanted to include funner stuff.

6 — AmericanStyle Magazine recently selected the St. James Court Art Show as the sixth-best art fair in the country. Not sure we’d agree, but fair’s fair.

7 — Ranked seventh in the “Best Towns of 2008” by Outside Magazine — which is a bit confusing: are we an outside contender or not?

8 — Number of miles from Willie Nelson’s heart to downtown Louisville.

9 — Heck, nobody wants to be ninth in anything, so how about this instead: Last year we finished first for having the “Best-Tasting Water in America.”

10 — And rounding out the list, West Main Street was ranked the tenth-best Main Street in the nation.
