Louisville’s Unbridled Spirits
Barrels of Business
If there’s one thing a Friend of Lou can drink to in Louisville, it’s bourbon.
Thanks to local distillers like Brown-Forman and Heaven Hill, Possibility City accounts for roughly 35 percent of the world’s bourbon production — and we’re talking about an international market of over 100 countries that demand over $1 billion of bourbon annually — in addition to a market of more than $0.5 billion in the US.
It seems only reasonable, therefore, that we’re also home to the original Whiskey Row and, more recently, that the Urban Bourbon Trail was just given the nod of approval by Best Travel Websites.
Raise a Glass to Raising a Glass
Just in case you’re the commemorative sort, we’d like to toast the month of September. It’s not only National Bourbon Heritage Month, but it also marks the birthday of George Garvin Brown, the young pharmaceuticals salesman who became a whiskey broker, distiller . . . and eventual founder of the Brown-Forman Company who had the brilliant idea of selling top-grade whiskey in sealed glass bottles.
Vote with Taste, Buds
Louisville’s Top Drop Contest. We need your help picking the world’s best-tasting bourbon. Think long. Think hard. If you must, stop by any of the nine local bars / restaurants on the Urban Bourbon Trail. (And no, it’s not cheating if you take advantage of the iPhone application.
