Donorama hosts blood drive. Louisville donates sweat & tears as well.

December 24th, 2009 by admin | See what 5 other Friends of Lou had to say about this.

Louisville Holiday Donorama
Tues and Wed, Dec 29 and 30
12 pm to 7 pm each day
Crowne Plaza (formerly Executive West)
830 Phillips Lane (across from the Fairgrounds)

Here’s a another perfect example of Louisville living up to our “It’s Possible Here” motto.

In just a few days the Red Cross is holding it’s biggest blood drive of the year, Donorama. 1,500 donors are expected to show up – a number that could overwhelm just about any other blood drive. But in Louisville, we step in and donate our time and energy, too. Check this out:

• As an official sponsor of this year’s Red Cross Donorama blood drive, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is providing a $10 KFC gift check to all presenting blood donors.
Donors will also be entered into drawings for other prizes. So…

• Thornton’s donated several $50 gas cards

• Tony Boombozz donated pizza gift certificates

• Louisville Slugger donated a gift certificate for a personalized Louisville Slugger baseball bat

• Panera Bread donated bagels for a year

• UofL donated autographed University of Louisville memorabilia

• And a little something extra for the High School crowd, UPS donated a Flight Simulator Experience.
Meanwhile,

• Courtesy of the Louisville Musicians Union, local bands will be there both days to entertain.

• Instead of the usual donuts and juice in the refreshment area, hot meals will be provided.

• Childcare will be provided throughout the drive thanks to volunteers willing to pull out their hair for a few hours.

• And Louisvillians, being a heartfelt bunch, we will be able to write a personal note about their donation on a large display at the drive.
By now you probably want to join in, so here are the details of what you’ll need to make a blood donation:

Bring a blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification at check-in. You must be at least 17-years old (16 with parental permission in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Any other questions call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (448-3543) or go online to givebloodgivelife.org. (You can also use those contacts to schedule a blood donation appointment at another time.)
To everyone, you rock.

shareHome-made videos about Possibility City? Shoot!
Louisville is rich with attractions, from the Ali Center to one of the nation’s finest urban park systems. Now there’s a place where people from Louisville or beyond can share their favorite attractions online.

It’s called the Share Louisville Project, and it’s a Web site where people can upload their own videos about Louisville.

Click here to visit the site.

Not only will you find loads of places you probably already love, but you’ll find some new ones you might not have even thought of as attractions, like the creek at Big Rock or a cool, quirky video featuring many of our local eateries.

Better yet, there’s a even a nifty “Share” function so you can send videos to friends. You can even send the video of the adorable dog in the cycling helmet. . . .

camera_1I too would like to make a movie
If you or someone you know has a hankering (or better yet, a video camera) to make a short movie about Louisville, you can click here to get the down-low on on the upload. There are giveaways and prizes, so think of it as two-way holiday gift between you and Possibility Citizens.

Tired of the Same Old TV Ads?

September 9th, 2009 by admin | Click here and tell us how you really feel.

tvadLast week we sent you a sneak peek of the new Friend of Lou promotional spots, coming to a monitor near you soon.

But this week we’re going to give you an insider’s look one of the brand-new Possibility City TV ads, “ITHAGT.”

“What’s ITHAGT?” you ask. Well, like you, we know Louisville’s the cure for almost any form of boredom, inability to achieve, or just down-right lack of possibility.

As a Friend of Lou, you’re lucky. You don’t suffer from ITHAGT — or Inability To Have A Good Time. Sadly, however, many, many others do.

So we ask you to watch this spot and send it to someone you love.

Because let’s face it: Everyone needs a little Louisville in their life.

This and another spot will start running this week on TV — and on radio, but you know, with fewer pictures. We’ve also lined up a special offensive for the UofL / UK football game on the 19th. We’ll post them all on the Friend of Lou site next week so you’ll be able to pass them along to friends, family, and fresh-faced recruits.

Heck, while we’re in the spirit of sharing, go ahead and be one of the first people to hear the brand-new Possibility City Radio spots: “Prescription” and “Allergy.”
