Louisville: Where Every Day Is Sunday

July 8th, 2010 by admin | See what 1 other Friend of Lou had to say about this.

Oh, the Sun Shines Bright . . .
Louisville boasts four seasons a year, but nowhere in the small print does it mention months like June.

According to the National Weather Service this was the hottest June Louisville’s ever experienced; the average temperature in the city was 81.1 degrees, 6.9 degrees above normal. The previous record for was for June 1952, when the average temperature topped out at 80.6 degrees.

Now, we don’t know about you, but in a city famed for making darn near anything possible, we thought it was time someone did something beside drink iced tea and fuss.

So we took matters into our own hands. We assembled a team of researchers and meteorologists and people who wear glasses and came up with a two-pronged solution:

A City Where the Voting Is Heated
First, we think this is a place where we everyone should have a say in how things are run. So you, good citizen, get to decide whether hotter-than-normal weather is acceptable here. Just click HERE to go to the Friend of Lou Weather Poll.

Enough Hot Air — Do Something Already!
Second, this is Possibility City. There’s nothing we can’t figure out. We know that if you give enough resourceful, smart, and able people a place to share ideas, incentivize them with some sparkly objects, then a brilliant answer won’t be far behind.

So here’s the deal: Once you voted on the Friend of Lou Weather Poll, add a comment below the poll that tells us the best way to lower the city’s temperature. (Fill the Ohio with ice and bourbon; give all the polar bears and penguins at the zoo TARC bus passes; turn up the AC at the new arena and stop work on the roof until Fall gets here; and so on. You get the picture.) Just click HERE to do your bit.

Sparkly Objects
And for your troubles, dear friend, we will reward you. The best ten ideas will receive something from the following weather-inspired pool of prizes:
• Possibility City Snowglobes
• Louisville Umbrellas
• Louisville Sweatshirts
• Louisville Water Bottles
• And more. . .

Improving Forecast
Believe it or not, it gets better, because we’ll just learned about a cool way to get some hot deals. Get it? “Cool” way. “Hot” deals. Anyhow, a local Groupon-like discount service has just been launched. And if you like Groupon, you’re going to love Try It Local. Not only does it focus all of the unique businesses that make Louisville, “Possibility City,” more of the money goes back into the pockets of the local companies that are part of the program. So check it out at www.TryItLocal.com. You can thank us later.

Did you Know . . .
Louisville is home to World’s largest manufacturer of outdoor furniture, Brown Jordan International. They make La-Z-Boy Outdoor, Martha Steward, Smith & Hawken, and Better Homes and Gardens patio furniture among others. Ahhhhh, a comfy Aegean Loose Cushion Adjustable Chaise lounge sounds good right about now.

Who Loves You? Lou Loves You.
Here’s Why.

You’ll get goodies in the mail and weekly emails pumped full of nifty info and giveaways. Plus the skinny on what’s going on around Possibility City. Louisville Expects a Gift from Above

December 2nd, 2009 by admin | See what 2 other Friends of Lou had to say about this.

polaroidcamDecember can only mean one thing: more weather
This is it, Friends of Lou. Brace yourselves for this Winter’s first attempt at redecorating Possibility City.

Forecasters are calling for rain-turning-to-flurries tonight and a slim chance of snow tomorrow. (Of course, in Louisville that means it could just as probably be either 80 degrees and sunny by Thursday afternoon or that we could be under six inches of ice by the weekend.)

Winter’s hottest coolest gift
Still, being the sort of folks who like to make lemon smoothies out of ice cubes, we thought what better time to announce the arrival of our nifty Possibility City snow globes. Featuring itty-bitty replicas of Churchill Downs, Humana, a Toonerville trolley, the E.ON and Aegon Buildings, and the Slugger Museum, you can pick it up (and then shake it) at the Visitor’s Information Center downtown. Or, if you want to avoid trudging through the snow, click here to find it online.

A snowball’s chance in Heaven of winning a free snow globe!
It’s almost the season of giving, so we’re giving away three snow globes to the first three people who upload photos of the anticipated snowfall.

And if it doesn’t snow, well, this is the town to be creative in: think of something in the spirit and upload it instead. Bonus points for inventiveness, obviously.
