Top Ten Reasons to Love on Louisville

It’s no secret we’re all about the Quality of Life in Possibility City, but there are enough Left-Brainers among us who demand to know about the Quantity of Life. “Prove we are a one-of-a-kind-don’t-take-no-for-an-answer-sort-of city that gets things done with a smile,” they cry. “And then turn it into a list so we can share it with anyone who doubts how cool we are.”

So we did. And here it is:

The Top Ten Reasons Louisville’s a Top-Tier Town
1 — 21c Museum Hotel has been selected as the Number One Hotel in the United States, and Number Six hotel in the world, in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards for 2009.

2 — Louisville has been voted all the way to Number Two as a “Top-25 City” according to a Kiplinger.com poll. (There’s still time to fix that, though: vote now to get us back to Number One.)

3 — One of the top-three winners for “Most Improved Cities for Cycling” by Bicycling Magazine. These things go in cycles, so who knows where we’ll end up a year from now?

5 — One of the five finalists for “America’s Foodiest” by Bon Appetit magazine. Yes, we know it’s not a real word, but we wanted to include funner stuff.

6 — AmericanStyle Magazine recently selected the St. James Court Art Show as the sixth-best art fair in the country. Not sure we’d agree, but fair’s fair.

7 — Ranked seventh in the “Best Towns of 2008” by Outside Magazine — which is a bit confusing: are we an outside contender or not?

8 — Number of miles from Willie Nelson’s heart to downtown Louisville.

9 — Heck, nobody wants to be ninth in anything, so how about this instead: Last year we finished first for having the “Best-Tasting Water in America.”

10 — And rounding out the list, West Main Street was ranked the tenth-best Main Street in the nation.
