Nation’s Largest Municipal Urban Forest? Yep, We’ve Got That

April 14th, 2009 by Michelle | Click here and tell us how you really feel.

Spring fever doesn’t even begin to describe what I’m suffering from. Now that warm weather is here it seems all I want to do is take long walks around my neighborhood. My dog is getting a little bored with that route though so soon we’re going to head out to Jefferson Memorial Forest for some serious hiking. Jefferson Memorial Forest is one of those gems that Louisville is so lucky to get to claim.

The Jefferson Memorial Forest stands as a living, woodland memorial to those Kentucky veterans who have served our nation in time of war. Today, the Jefferson Memorial Forest encompasses approximately 6,191 acres

You read that correctly. 6,191 acres and over 35 miles of hiking trails. Located just 15 miles from downtown Louisville it is the nation’s largest municipal urban forest.  I just wanted you to know about it. As you were.
