Record Coolness Expected in Louisville

June 25th, 2009 by lou | See what 1 other Friend of Lou had to say about this.

It’s that time of year when the dogs start to stroll after the cats and the mercury begins to flirt with the wrong side of 90.

But even with Mother Nature bringing it on strong outside, conventions are storming to Possibility City, home to two of the nation’s most successful convention centers.

The Kentucky Exposition Center (KEC) celebrated its grand opening of the South Wing C expansion in 2005, and is now the sixth-largest facility of its kind in the U.S., featuring over 1.2 million square feet of indoor exhibit, meeting, and public space.

Turn up the heat, you say? Well, located in the heart of downtown, the Kentucky International Convention Center (KICC) has 300,000 square feet of space, a 30,000 square-foot ballroom, and 52 meeting rooms — all under one generously air-conditioned roof.

And how about this for a partial list of smoking-hot conventions in Louisville this summer:

• Advanced Placement Reading 2009: Attendance 3,360
• Southern Baptist Convention: Attendance, 16,000
• United States Cycling Federation: Attendance, 4,300
• National Street Rod Association: Attendance, 29,500
